With the 50th anniversary of the moon landing coming up, what is a way to spur people's interest in the moon landing as well as shed light on JFK's importance to it?
The Problem
Bring the experience of watching the rocket launch to Boston by utilizing a device that most people carry, their phone. With AR comes the ability to create a portal to experience what it was like to watch Apollo 11 launch, whether it's in person at the JFK Library or from anywhere around the world. Then give users a bird's-eye view of the journey to the Moon.

My Role
Creating Look And Feel
The first thing that we wanted to accomplish was the general look and feel of the campaign. The idea behind the pieces was that everything should appear to be in motion, moving vertically, with a static grounding point as an anchor.
Working With An AR Vendor
Without having developers in-house to build the experience, we teamed up with Unit 9 to create the AR experience. Working with Unit 9, they had some initial ideas that we worked from, then worked together to come up with the look and feel for the app as well as how it should operate.
The App
With the app we didn't want to just be a rocket that launched. We also wanted it to give you a view of what it meant to fly to the Moon, both technically and as a nation. Since the main focus of this is for JFK, users can not only the launch, but track its trajectory and landing on the moon, all the while learning about how this feat was accomplished, the people behind it, and the impact it made.
Live Release
If you were in Boston at the time Apollo 11 would have launched, 50 years later, you could go down to the JFK Library and experience it in person. At the JFK Library users could see a to-scale 363-foot-tall Saturn V rocket launch.
Work Featured Front And Center
An unforeseen but pleasing result was Tim Cook's mention of iPadOS during Apple's September 2019 event and the subsequent showcasing of Moonshot work as an app that optimally leverages the iPad's capabilities to deliver an exceptional user experience.
