As the COVID-19 pandemic commenced, people worldwide were left pondering how to fill their time amidst the extended periods spent at home. Like many others, I too was keen to pursue activities that had long piqued my interest. I set my sights on two focal points: gaming news coverage and designing trendy t-shirts. Combining these concepts, I founded Kryofilik to cater to both.
A Project Just for Me
Play Games and Write About Them
One area of interest that had long intrigued me was writing for a gaming news website. However, taking on a second job was not feasible. As a solution, I decided to create my own website to write for. This endeavor involved not just curating content but also designing a streamlined and efficient website.
Build a Design System
Building a design system from scratch is an effective way to establish a uniform and efficient website. I started with defining the brand identity, followed by developing UI components and a style guide. By doing so, the subsequent phase of creating content becomes much more straightforward.
Creating Efficient Content
With a minimalistic design system, I developed templates that facilitated easy and efficient content creation as needed.
Honing Design Skills through Creative Apparel Production
In addition to producing t-shirts and hoodies, I was keen to hone my design skills, thereby affording me a degree of creative freedom that was not always feasible in my day-to-day work. This enabled me to experiment with various design techniques and approaches.
Design Exercise to Small Business
After working with several designs I was then able to create apparel, a social media presence, and make a small profit from what started as a design exercise.
