Odyssey Art House
AI Demonstration Project
Artificial Intelligence is an emerging technology that holds significant potential for managing processes and unleashing creative possibilities. I wanted to find an effective method for demonstrating the strengths and limitations of AI. So I came up with a platform that encourages extensive creativity with minimal constraints. Establishing an art collective embraces this idea while exploring the potential of what can be actualized.
A Project Just For Me
Everything is Generated
The concept of this project was to explore the possibility of constructing an entire art collective using AI-generated creativity. This approach enabled an assessment of AI capabilities in generating artists' profiles, biographies, artistic styles, and the influence of their backgrounds on their artwork. The focus was on maintaining a consistent thought process and continuity, particularly across various platforms. ChatGPT and Midjourney were the primary platforms that were used.
Creating the Artists
The initial hurdle to overcome was the creation of the artists, as this serves as the foundation for the entire project. Demonstrating the wide range of possibilities required incorporating artists with diverse backgrounds, which in turn would lead to distinct art styles. This also involved crafting the artists' appearances and ensuring that the visual aesthetic could be consistently replicated.
Curation, Curation, Curation
The objective was to generate as much content as possible using AI, minimizing the need for personal intervention in refining the creations. This is where I saw one of the first drawbacks to AI generation, specifically in terms of creative. Refinement is always necessary in its current state, so to address this issue, a large number of assets had to be produced and sorted through.
Learnings
While this was a very fun project it was way more work than I was ever anticipating. The buzz around AI is usually around how groundbreaking it is and all of the things it can replace, including designers and creatives. After using it extensively I found that it is fantastic for things that are conceptual, but when it comes to specifics it’s lacking. A lot needs to be edited and refined to the point where it’s faster to do that than have AI generate the perfect image. Maybe one day it will get to the point where it could replace designers in some aspects but at the moment it’s just another tool in the tool box, albeit a very powerful tool. Personally I find it much more useful for concepting and process management.
